Member Spotlight – Leo Weber

templesolel Community

Leo Weber is a freshman at Desert Mountain High School. He was raised in Scottsdale with his younger sister, Madeline (12), his parents Adam and Joy Weber, and their cat, Roswell. Leo’s interests include running, biking, hiking, and playing video games.

Leo has been a Temple Solel member for as long as he can remember. His family became members in 2011. His parents are owners of two gift shops (Scottsdale Southwest and Southwestern Reflections) in Historic Old Town Scottsdale. Started by Joy’s parents, members Paul and Marnee Solon when they moved to Arizona in the 80s. They carry a lot of southwestern gifts, home décor, and apparel.

Leo’s favorite Temple Solel memory is having his Bar Mitzvah. “I also remember going as a little kid to Temple Solel for services a lot and I always enjoyed that as a little kid,” he says “the community is awesome. I really like the sense of community.”

An inspiration to Leo is his dad. Leo states, “He has inspired me to be a runner.” Leo’s future goal is to go to college and study either Engineering and Math or Geography and History. “I have to choose one of those two interests and develop them further,” he says.

Something Temple Solel members may not know about Leo is that he had cancer when he was 4 years old. Now, he is part of the Students of the Year philanthropic leadership development program for his school. Through Students of the Year, students foster professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management in order to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). You can help Leo become a Student of the Year by donating here: tinyurl.com/LeoWeberDonate. (ended March 5, 2021)
